Idylwood Beach Park
Attention: Upcoming Tree Removal

From March 19 - April 20, 2018, contractors will be at Idylwood Beach Park removing some trees in high use areas. During removal, some areas of the park will have limited access which will be clearly marked with signage and tape.

Park staff recently conducted a visual tree risk assessment on all trees throughout the park. Factors considered for the risk assessment included tree health, defects, species, and location.

Based on the tree risk assessments, thirty large cottonwood trees will be removed. Following removal of the trees, a mix of more than 60 coniferous and deciduous replacement trees will be planted.

Key Dates:
Summer 2017 - Two separate large limb failures resulting in injury to park patron and damage to private property.  Certified arborist on city staff conducted visual tree risk assessment and identified trees in high use areas that needed to be removed.

Feb 2018 - Approval from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Dept to proceed

Mar 2018 - Clear and Grade Permit approved, SEPA exemption

Late April to early May -  60 Trees Replanted
