Overlake Village South Detention Vault Project
The City is proposing to construct a large stormwater detention vault in the Overlake Village neighborhood near NE 20th Street and 148th Ave NE. This facility will be a regional detention facility that will detain stormwater that has been treated locally within public rights-of-way and private development areas. Once surrounding property develops in the future, park facilities would be constructed on top of the stormwater vault. In the meantime, parking use will continue by the owner of the property. The development of this park would occur in the future with other neighborhood redevelopment.
Project Update: April 2013
The south vault is proposed to be operational by 2015, with construction occurring over the two summer seasons of 2013 and 2014. In 2011, the City retained Otak to design the facility, and design is currently in process.
Geotechnical analysis was completed at various sites in the neighborhood to improve our understanding of the soil and groundwater conditions. The design team also has completed an analysis of configuration and sizing alternatives for the vault. The layout of the vault footprint has been established, and a constructability review has been completed.
The project is being split into two separate construction bids. The design and construction of the utility relocation within the storm water vault area is scheduled to be completed in Summer/Fall 2013. The design and construction of the storm water vault are scheduled to be completed in Spring/Summer/Fall 2014.
