Redmond, WA – Redmond will celebrates the 72nd Annual Derby Days Summer Festival this year, in conjunction with its Centennial. The festival runs Friday, July 13 from 6-10pm, Saturday, July 14 from 10am-10pm and Sunday, July 15th from 9-Noon and 4-8pm. Events are at the Redmond City Hall Campus, 15670 NE 85th Street, with the exception of the 4-8pm Concert in the Park, on Sunday, at Redmond’s Downtown Park, 16101 Redmond Way.
Friday Night Live kicks off the festival with headliner, HIT Explosion! The opening act, Clinton Fearon & the Boogie Brown Band, will get people ready for a night of dancing. Food vendors are on hand for dinner or a snack, and the beer and wine garden will provide a great spot for both people and band watching. After the concert enjoy the movie, Sherlock Holmes – A Game of Shadows from 10 to midnight on the great lawn at City Hall, presented by RYPAC.
Saturday’s events begin with an old fashioned Fire Department sponsored public Pancake Breakfast, Saturday, July 14, 2012, 8:00a.m. to Noon at Fire Station 11 located at 8450 161st Ave NE, Redmond located by the downtown Post Office. All proceeds will go to the RFD Benevolent Fund which supports local residents when they are facing personal tragedy. Additionally kids can tour the Fire Trucks, try spraying water on a mock fire, and try on real firefighter gear.
Beginning at 10am, the Derby Days Kids Parade, one of the nation’s largest kid’s parade will take place. Parade registration begins at 9am behind Redmond Medical Center. Arriving early is strongly recommended in order to register before the parade starts.
The Grand Parade will follow with members of Redmond’s Founding Families as this year’s Grand Marshals. Best viewing of the bands, drill teams and floats is at the corner of NE 85th Street and 161st Avenue NE and along 85th to City Hall.
The Criterium, the nation’s longest running bicycle race, starts at 1:15pm with the last race at 7pm. Race spectators can enjoy the fast paced race from the beer and wine garden, which opens at 1pm and will be located just off the first corner.
The opening act Saturday on the Microsoft Main Stage at 12:30pm will be the Gothard Sisters, a fiddling, dancing and singing sister act trio. At 1:30pm, Roberto the Magnificent will thrill with his tricks. Recess Monkey, a kid-driven, high energy group will rock the stage at 2:30pm. Crème Tangerine will play Beatles classics at 4:00pm. At 6:00pm Dr. Funk will get the crowd ready for the headliner of the night, Super Diamond, who takes the stage at 8:15pm. Prepare to sing and dance and have a good time! The beer and wine gardens open at 1:00pm on Saturday.
As always, families with children will enjoy the free activities that include bouncy houses, the Cadman Sand Box, a climbing wall, Ben Franklin arts and crafts booth and, new this year, pony rides, from Noon - 4:00m. Enjoy carnival rides and games in a new location, the City Hall Campus Park and Ride on 160th Street. Hours of operation are Friday, July 13, 5-10pm and Saturday, July 14, 10:00am -10:00pm.
You can start Sunday morning at the Derby Days Dash, a 5K run/walk along the Sammamish River Trail, benefitting the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. End the day enjoying the new Sunday Concert in the Park event featuring local X Factor finalist, LeRoy Bell, 4:00 – 8:00pm at the Downtown Park. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy an evening in the City’s newest park.
Also at Derby Days this year, is the Redmond Impact Eco-Fair, showcasing information and resources for conserving energy and reducing your environmental impact. Visit eco-friendly vendors, the Green Car Show, and enjoy the family entertainment while quenching your thirst in the Root Beer Garden. At 10:00pm on Saturday, a spectacular fireworks display will finish off the evening.

There are more parking and shuttle options this year. Ample parking is available at the City Hall Parking Garage, Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center, Redmond Town Center, and at two new locations: Overlake Christian Church, 9900 Willows Road NE and Redmond High School, 17272 NE 104th Street. A free shuttle will run on Saturday only, July 14 between parking sites from 9:00am - 10:30pm.
