Applying for a New Business License
Business licenses are valid from January 1 through December 31 of the year issued. For a new license, go to the Citizen Service online system and move through the steps to "Apply for a License".
A business license is required to engage in business in the City of Redmond whether you are located within Redmond, or simply conducting business in Redmond. To determine if your business is located within the Redmond City limits, view a City of Redmond interactive Map and search by your address, or see a PDF street map of Redmond instead.
If your place of business is not located within the City limits, but you or your agents will be physically coming into the City to conduct business, call on clients, or provide services, you will also need a Redmond business license. Refer to the list of exempt businesses if you are not sure whether your business requires a license.

Businesses Located Outside of Redmond
If your place of business is not located within the City limits, but you or your agents will be physically coming into the City to conduct business or to call on clients, you will need a Redmond business license. In addition, those who earn money without physical presence, by providing services such as telecommunications or by receiving rents, need to complete an Outside of City Business License.
Commercial Businesses in Redmond

Home Based Businesses in Redmond
A home based business allows limited commercial activity within residences providing the business does not interfere with the residential character of the neighborhood through noise, traffic, oversized vehicles, signs, or safety hazards that may be generated.
The following business types are classified as a "Miscellaneous Business License".
Miscellaneous licenses are valid February 2 to January 31 of the following calendar year and must be renewed annually. If you will be peddling, soliciting or canvassing you will need to obtain a City of Redmond business license in addition to obtaining an application for Peddler, Solicitor, or Canvasser License.
- Adult entertainment facilities, managers, and entertainers
- Adult cabarets
- Carnivals, circuses & amusements
- Music boxes
- Peddlers, solicitors, or canvassers
- Public bathhouse establishments, attendants
- Public dance halls, public dances
- Shooting sports facilities
- Tow trucks
Each person going door to door must obtain a license, submit a copy of their driver’s license, and agree to a background check. The approval process for a Peddler, Solicitor or Canvasser License takes approximately two weeks and an issued license is required prior to going door-to-door.
