Public Meeting Notice for the 166th AVE NE Rechannelization Project
October 23, 2013 Anne Marie Peacock

Redmond, WA - The City of Redmond will host a public meeting on the 166th Avenue NE Rechannelization project this Monday, October 28, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center at 16600 NE 80th ST.

Monday’s public meeting will focus on traffic operations on 166th Avenue NE. Meeting participants will be asked to comment on improvements planned between NE 85th ST and NE 100th ST. City staff will be listening for concerns previously unreported by area drivers. All public comments will be considered in the final design going to the City Council in December.

166th Avenue NE is a major corridor between Education Hill and Downtown Redmond. It also provides neighborhood access to Education Hill schools and churches. To accommodate all modes of transportation and address known safety concerns, Redmond’s Comprehensive and Transportation Master Plan calls for the conversion of 166th Avenue NE from four lanes to three. Rechannelizing 166th Avenue NE between NE 85th ST and NE 100th ST will complete the conversion of the corridor.

While a conversion is the direction for 166th Avenue NE, questions still remain regarding appropriate engineering treatments for specific spots. Key intersections include 166th Avenue NE at NE 85th ST, at NE 95th ST, and at NE 100th ST.

Safety issues that require consideration include delay to side street vehicles accessing 166th Avenue NE, sight distance deficiencies, a truck climbing lane, collisions, traffic speeds and volumes, and pedestrian crossings.

Following a brief presentation at 5:30 p.m., meeting participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and share concerns. City staff and project consultants will be available for the remainder of the meeting so participants can view and provide written comments on planned improvements. Meeting materials will be available on the City’s website the day after the meeting at
