International Walk to School Day
is a global event designed to encourage families to get out of their cars and walk to school.
International Walk to School Day began as a way to create real-life
experiences to teach children important pedestrian safety skills. It was also designed to connect residents, school administrators, and elected officials in order to identify suggested walk routes and prioritize areas needing traffic safety improvements and better pedestrian facilities.
International Walk to School Day promotes good health, pedestrian safety, and the importance of a walkable community.
In Redmond, International Walk to School Day is aligned with the City's Transportation Master Plan to enhance the "green character" of our City by creating and sustaining pedestrian-supportive environments. International Walk to School Day helps us raise awareness for walking as a real transportation choice.
